will focus
The project will focus on the residents of Stockton on Tees,
Billingham, Yarm (North Tees), Middlesbrough and Eston and Langbaurgh
and Cleveland (South Tees). It will also involve links in to North
Yorkshire and Durham which the North Riding Infirmary based consultants
have traditionally served.
The population of this area is approximately 450,000.
All operative procedures are undertaken at North Riding Infirmary.
Out Patient clinics are held at North Riding Infirmary, North Tees
General Hospital and East Cleveland Hospital.

- Objectives of the project
We aim
- to improve theatre throughput and activity
- to humanise the process for patients and staff
- to improve patient education and knowledge
- to introduce performance measures that are relevant to the primary
and secondary sectors
- to disseminate good practice from research and practical
experience
- to examine technological advances in IT and medical equipment that
will improve communications for all professionals and patients on
the pathway
- Scope and focus of the project
- Examine and evaluate the range of existing practices in the G.P.
surgery, the high street optometrist, the hospital out-patient
department, the wards and theatres and the medical secretaries'
office.
- To map and evaluate the processes.
- To examine knowledge levels of all the professionals of each
other's roles and responsibilities
- To produce education packs in the most relevant medium for
professionals and patients
- To produce an A-Z of best practices
- To produce a Health Economics model of trends in demand and
capacity limitations
- To introduce IT solutions to booked admissions, information giving
and retrieval via the NHS net from a North Riding Infirmary website.
